Meningitis 

Meningococcemia: accompanied with petechial hemorrhages and gangrene of the the toes. 

Waterhouse-Friderichsen syndorme (complication of meningococcemia: adrenal destruction (adrenal insufficiency), fever, DIC, shock

TREATMENT

Vaccine: 

Prophylaxis Rifampin, ciprofloxacin, or ceftriaxone in close contacts. 

Treatment of infection: ceftriaxone or penicillin G
