Reactive Attachement Disorder

OVERVIEW

Reactive attachment disorder refers to a condition that originates in young children. Before the age of 5, the child will have some pima pried social interactions that are due to pathological issues with upbringing (i.e. parenting). This condition is not due to an autism spectrum disorder.

This condition will manifest in 2 major ways:

  1. Inhibited type: the child does not initiate or respond appropriately socially. Avoids contact, or will approach others then avoid contact.
  2. Disinhibited type: the child will be too attached to all strangers they interact with.
WHAT MAKES US SUSPECT IT?

Risk Factors:

Institutionalized children, foster children, homeless children
