WHAT IS IT?
Schizoaffective disorder refers to a condition that is characterized by both psychotic features AND a mood disorder (such as depression, mania).
The important thing to appreciate is that this disorder refers to a condition of BASELINE psychosis with the addition of a mood disorder on top of it. It is for this reason that the criteria require the patient to have at least 2 weeks of psychotic symptoms without any mood symptoms.
