OVERVIEW

This page is dedicated to compiling Step 1 study notes for the topic of HIV medications. This page is likely disorganized as it was made in haste.

FUSION INHIBITORS

Examples:

  • Maraviroc: inhibits attachment
  • Enfuvirtide: inhibits penetration
INTEGRASE INHIBITORS

Examples:

  • Dolutegravir
  • Elvitegravir
  • Raltegravir

PROTEASE INHIBITORS

Examples

Atazanavir, Darunavir, Fosamprenavir, Indinavir, Lopinavir, Ritonavir, Saquinavir (avir ending)

Mechanism

Inhibit HIV protease from calving the polypeptide products of HIV into their functional parts. Prevents maturation of new virus.

NONNUCLEOSIDE REVERSE TRANSCRIPTASE INHIBITORS (NNRTIs)

Examples

Nevirapine, efavirenz, dlavirdine

Mechanism

Important Facts

  • Do not require activation via intracellular phosphorylation
