Interventional Radiology Equipment: Gastrointestinal Anchor Set (T-Fasteners/T-Pexy Devices)

OVERVIEW

This page is dedicated to exploring what is included in (and how to use) a gastrointestinal anchor set. This set  is commonly used in interventional radiology when placing a percutaneous gastric tube (PEG tube). The kit used on this page and in the videos below is the Halyard Gastrointestinal Anchor Set With SAF-T-PEXY T-FASTENERS (REF 98701-03).

These anchor sets are very commonly used aid in the proper placement of percutaneous gastric tubes. This is one example kit (image source).
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE KIT?

The video below helps go over the equipment that is included in this particular kit.

HOW DO YOU USE THE KIT?

The video below demonstrates how to use this kit to place the fasteners prior to the placement of a gastric tube.

HOW DO YOU REMOVE THE FASTENERS WHEN THEY ARE NO LONGER NEEDED?

It is important to realize that these anchors are no longer needed after about 14-21 days (and that leaving them in place for too long can lead to complications such as skin breakdown in patients). As a result, it is important to know how to remove them in the appropriate time frame. The video below demonstrates ow to remove these T-fasteners.
