Euthyroid Sick Syndrome

WHAT IS IT?

Euthyroid sick syndrome refers to a thyroid abnormality where there is a fall in total/free T3 levels with normal T4 and TSH levels

WHAT CAUSES IT?

Acute severe illness can be responsible for this thyroid abnormality (by decreasing peripheral conversion of T4 to T3 by a variety of mechanisms).
