Long Thoracic Nerve

NEURAL PATHWAY

The long thoracic nerve originates from the anterior rami of the nerve roots C5-C7

FUNCTION

Innervates the serratus anterior muscle: this muscle pulls the scaupla forward with relation to the thorax. 

CAUSE OF INJURY

Stab wound/surgical procedure

CLINICAL PRESNENTATION

Winged scapula may occur when this nerve is damaged.
