Postpartum Depression

SUMMARY

Postpartum depression is a mood disorder that is experienced within 4 weeks after delivery. It is characterized by depressed affect, anxiety, and poor concentration starting within 4 weeks after delivery.

Treatment involves cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and SSRI medications.

Evaluation of any psychotic features is important in order to diagnose possible postpartum psychosis.
