Augmentin (Amoxicillin/Clavulanate)

WHAT IS IT?

Augmentin (Amoxicillin/Clavulanate) is a combination of amoxicillin and the β-lactamase inhibitor clavulanic acid.

WHEN DO WE USE IT?

When the infectious pathogen produces a β-lactamase.

Prophylaxis after a cat bite: cats has long sharp teeth that can inoculate their oral flora (Pasteurella multocida, other oral anaerobes) deep into the skin.
