Archive Of Standardized Exam Questions: Chlamydia

OVERVIEW

This page is dedicated to organizing various examples of standardized exam questions whose answer is chlamydia. While this may seem a odd practice, it is useful to see multiple examples of how chlamydia will be characterized on standardized exams (namely the boards and the shelf exams). This page is not meant to be used as a traditional question bank (as all of the answers will be the same), however seeing the classic “test” characterization for a disease is quite valuable.

QUESTION EXAMPLES

Question # 1

A 20 year old male comes to the clinic because he has been experiencing a burning sensation when urinating, and also has watery urethral discharge. He denies any fever or any past medical history of sexually transmitted diseases. He explains that he was sexually active with a female partner 3 weeks ago and then 2 different female partners 2 weeks ago. He admits that he did not use condoms during these episodes. His temperature is 98.6°F, pulse is 82/min, and blood pressure is 120/75 mm Hg. A physical exam is notable for a purulent white discharge from the urethra. A gran stain of the discharge shows the presence of segmented neutrophils but does not show any intracellular organisms. What is the likely diagnosis?
