Radiological Anatomy: Diaphragm

OVERVIEW

This page is dedicated to covering how the diaphragm will appear across different radiological studies.

CHEST X-RAY

A chest X-ray is a very routinely ordered study, and a core component of reading a chest X-ray is to evaluate the appearance of the diaphragm.

The right diaphragm (black arrow) is generally at a higher level then the left diaphragm (white arrow). This is because the liver rests under the right diaphragm and pushes it superiorly (source).
