Cocaine intoxication is a self descriptive condition

WHAT MAKES US SUSPECT IT?

History Of Present Illness:

Hallucinations: visual and tactile hallucinations (i.e. bugs crawling on the skin) can be present with this condition.

Physical Exam:

Vital signs may show signs of sympathetic stimulation:

  • Tachycardia
  • Hypertension

Neurological exam:

  • Dilated pupils
WHAT ELSE ARE WE CONCERNED ABOUT?

Myocardial infarction: this medication can cause a coronary vasospasm, which can lead to an acute MI.
